Individuals are eligible to receive a maximum of €500 for a single hair replacement item such as a hairpiece or wig, within each calendar year from PRSI contributions. This benefit specifically caters to cases of hair loss resulting from a disease or its treatment, such as cancer or alopecia.

The covered types of alopecia include:
- Alopecia areata, which encompasses alopecia totalis or universalis, diffuse alopecia areata, and alopecia ophiasis.
- Primary scarring alopecias, also known as cicatricial alopecias.
- Frontal fibrosing alopecia and lichen planopilaris, both categorized as scarring alopecia.
- Chemotherapy-induced alopecia, known as anagen effluvium.
- Hair loss due to surgery or trauma, including burns.
